Childhood and youth: passion for sports 

The future athlete was born near Los Angeles in 1984. Her mother, Halyna Feldman (maiden name), was born in Odesa, but immigrated to the United States with her parents at the age of 16. By the way, the American athlete’s mother was also a gymnast and ballerina. Sasha’s father is a business consultant and attorney, Roger Cohen.

When she was a child, Sasha was a gymnast like her mother. However, at the age of seven, she became interested in figure skating. At the age of 11, our compatriot began to take figure skating seriously.

In 2002, she completed her secondary education at Futures High School.

Career development

Sasha began to be recognized by her opponents after she took part in the United States Championships in 2000.

In 2001, the athlete suffered a back injury, so she did not go to the 2001 U.S. Championships. She made up for it in 2002. Cohen won a silver medal. Also in 2002, the figure skater took part in the Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City. Sasha Cohen took fourth place. In Nagano, at the World Championships, our compatriot also won fourth place.

Later, the skater decided to change her coach. Tatiana Tarasova began to train the American. It should be noted that Sasha benefited from the change of coach. The following season, the coach was replaced again. This time, the athlete decided not to look for new names, but returned to her very first coach, John Nicks. Sasha Cohen took second place at the United States Championships and the World Championships.

Not only sports were in the American woman’s life

However, her passion for cinema did not last long. In 2008, Cohen announced that she wanted to return to sports again and even take part in the 2009 World Cup. But due to her health condition, she was unable to do so.

At the 2010 United States Championships, Sasha Cohen took fourth place and was therefore unable to participate in the Olympic Games.

As for her personal life, in 2016, our compatriot married Tom May, but two years later the couple divorced. In 2019, she started a new relationship with Geoffrey Lieberthal. The couple had two children: a son and a daughter.
